A common issue we come across is where a house has a outdated Conservatory. Either too hot, in summer, and too cold, in winter, they usually come in awkward shape, making furniture placement difficult. Combine this with failing windows/roofs and taking away daylight from internal spaces and you can see why homeowners want to look into replacing them with new structures.
This project demonstrates how a relatively modest increase in footprint (5sqm) can have a major impact on the layout and aesthetic quality of our homes. The existing conservatory was demolished and internal walls removed to create a beautiful open plan Kitchen/Dining/Family space, leading out to a new decking area, which provides a great entertaining space.
The extension was designed to focus views towards the garden, with glazing to the South and West elevations, taking advantage of the sun path. A roof lantern provides natural daylight into the central space, while helping to define the Dining space.
A vast island was installed, to provide all the worktop space required, reorienting the homeowner's views towards the gardens. Tall units were fitted to provide storage and house the main appliances.
Materials were chosen to update the look of the house, with dark grey windows, doors and cladding. The membrane roof with overhangs and straight lines add to this modern aesthetic.
