Terraced House Alterations

House alteration project in the West End of Aberdeen.

The existing layout is typical of many period homes, with the rooms to the rear not matching the grandeur of the formal rooms to the front. The existing Kitchen and Dining space were dark, uninspiring and had no view over the garden.

By removing an existing internal (granite) wall and forming new openings to create access and views over the garden, Ian McGregor Architects were able to create a Kitchen to complement the existing house.

The new window opening at the rear of the house makes an amazing difference, allowing views over the garden and helping to re-orientate the views to the rear, rather than into the neighboring property.

The external alterations were carefully considered, using materials to match the existing, and look like have always been there.

New rooflights were installed, insulation was added to the external walls and roof, a new kitchen was fitted, along with new flooring, lighting, electrics and raditiators.

All these changes have made a massive impact on the enjoyment of this space, all without having to extend the footprint.
